What are Prince Philip Games?
Prince Philip Games (or PPG) are the mounted games played in Pony Club. The games are played in relay teams and the teams race each other in things like dropping balls in buckets, spearing rings or balancing an egg on a spoon while riding. There are 41 games listed in the rule book. See me for a description of the games or download the whole rule book from: www.canadianponyclub.org/downloads.html
Why Should I Practice PPG?
Because they're a lot of fun and everyone can enjoy them! They make a great break from regular riding lessons. But at the same time they help you practice the things you need to do to become a better rider.
What Makes a Team?
A PPG team is supposed to have 5 riders under 15 and 5 ponies 14.2 hh or under. But only 4 ponies and riders play each game so they must take turns sitting out. For older riders, there is a Master's Division for riders 15 and over and for horses up to 15.2 hh.
At our own club meetings and fun days, we will ignore these rules and arrange the games so everyone can play.
What About Competition?
Saskatchewan has not been active in PPG over the past few years. Many branches find it hard to get a team together so they just play within their own club. If there is interest some inter-club competitions may be held in the future.
